Trainee and Student at Kiepenheuer & Witsch
"The combination of practice and theory and the linking of the two let you learn all the time."
I am completing my training to become a management assistant in digital and print media at Kiepenheuer & Witsch publishing house. In addition, I study Publishing & Media Management at Steinbeis-Hochschule in Berlin in cooperation with the mediacampus Frankfurt.
I have always been interested in the process from manuscript to a finished book. The opportunity to experience this process at a renowned publishing house like Kiwi was a perfect opportunity!
I work in all departments that support the process of a book project: Editing, rights & licenses, production, sales, advertising, press and online editing. Work shadowing in the accounting department as well as at the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung was also included in my training plan.
As I work shadow every department in the publishing house, I have the opportunity of getting to know the different tasks and to support my colleagues. This means I always have different projects and tasks in the relevant departments. The expertise gained in my dual studies is very helpful here.
In the last two years I have learned a great deal of new things in my major field of study - from working in the different departments of the publishing house, but also from my studies in the vocational school at the mediacampus and in the university. The combination of practice and theory and the linking of the two let you learn all the time.
I appreciate the most that I was given the opportunity to complete my training and my studies at the same time and that I received so much support in doing so.
I definitely want to continue working in a publishing house and be part of the book production and marketing process!
