Working with Passion and Drive

Amy on changes and what makes Henry Holt so special

How did you make the decision to come to Macmillan?

I was very attracted to the corporate culture at Macmillan. It has a reputation of being a caring, nurturing company where people stay for a long time. I've very much found that to be true.

What was your path within our Group?

When I first came to Macmillan it was as the publisher of Flatiron. I moved over to Holt in September 2019 as President.

What are the big opportunities ahead for you and your team?

Holt was founded in 1866 and I am the first woman to ever run it, something I am extremely proud of.  It's the first of many exciting changes at Holt. People will be seeing new authors on our list, dynamic covers, terrific marketing and publicity campaigns. We are looking at every facet of the publishing process anew.

What do you love about working at Macmillan?

Our authors, our employees, and the corporate culture - and they're all intricately connected.  It's a caring group of individuals, all passionate about our authors.

What advice do you have for job seekers looking to join as part of the group?

I would urge people to take advantage of how accessible people are at Macmillan. It's the rare company where an assistant can have coffee with the CFO and ask them questions.  There's such a plethora of knowledge that people can tap into.
