Diverse Voices

Get to know Deana!

At Holtzbrinck, we want to highlight the diverse voices among our colleagues. Deana is one of them. We asked her to tell us more about the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion.

What is your name and what do you do at Holtzbrinck Publishing Group?

My name is Deana Christine Evers. My job is Corporate Risk and Insurance Manager at Holtzbrinck Publishing Group in Stuttgart.

What does diversity, equity and inclusion mean in the work context/environment and why is it so important?

Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) are essential to the well-being of every individual in an organization. Being yourself in a safe and mindful environment is pure empowerment and critical to the success of both the individual and the organization. DEI is not just for minorities, it helps everyone in their daily collaboration because it creates a positive climate.

How do you experience the diversity, equity and inclusion culture at Holtzbrinck?

My experience as a woman with a transgender background is really positive, as colleagues are open-minded and being transgender is not a big issue. But also older colleagues, those with roots in other countries and those who belong to other dimensions of diversity are very welcome. That is my personal impression.

How does the LGBTQI+ Employee Resource Group "Queer@Holtzbrinck" help colleagues in the community at Holtzbrinck?

I can't say how our group helps people. What we offer are role models, a safer space, and support for questions about LGBTQI+ issues. A great experience for me was that a colleague told me that she felt strengthened by meeting me on the network. That's the purpose of queer@holtzbrinck in my opinion.

What do you wish for the future in terms of diversity, equity and inclusion?

My ideal scenario is that DEI measures could be removed from the agenda because they would no longer be needed. But that is a utopia. More realistic people should learn to see the similarities and realize that the differences are an enrichment, not only at work but also in daily life. My Slogan: Recognize the similarities and celebrate the differences.
