Rewarding projects and supportive teams.

Wilson is thriving in his job - thanks to having an impact along with a pleasant working environment

How did you come to the decision to join Macmillan?

I was in pursuit of a career in Human Resources when I came across the job posting for my very first role at Macmillan Publishers Service (MPS). I had always worked in publishing and I had a bit of distribution experience, so I felt a distribution operation for one of the largest publishers in the US would be a good fit and perfect transition into a career in Human Resources.

What project has your team worked on that you are most proud of and why?

Launching the MPS Lunch & Learn Program in an effort to build relationships and promote engagement has been both impactful and rewarding. We take pride in contributing to an environment where our colleagues are provided an opportunity to learn and develop.

What are future projects for you and your team that you are looking forward to?

We plan to start the MPS Future Leaders Program in September 2023. The purpose of this program is to cultivate leaders who have integrity, will hold their peers accountable, and value respecting others and themselves. This is a vital component in our ongoing mission to create a culture of integrity, accountability, inclusivity, and respect, one where we uplift one another and continuously strive toward an inclusive environment that at all times reflects Macmillan’s values.

What do you love about working at Macmillan?

I love the collaborative work atmosphere where strong relationships can even be forged virtually and team members work closely together despite being physically distant. I have some of the strongest relationships with colleagues throughout the organization whom I’ve never met in person until recently.

How would you describe the work atmosphere at Macmillan?

The atmosphere is one where team members are supportive of each other and are quick to offer help and guidance when needed. They also take the time to get to know each other on a personal level, sharing stories about their families, hobbies, and interests. But most of all, it is an atmosphere in which I feel diversity, equity, and inclusivity are valued and different perspectives and experiences recognized.

What makes working in publishing so exciting for you?

For me, it’s impact. Publishing has the power to shape public opinion and influence cultural conversations, and being a part of that can be incredibly gratifying. Although I’m not in a position where I’m involved with the day-to-day operations of publishing, being so close to the real impact the organization has the potential to create in the world around us is extremely inspiring.
